Reverend Grenlen (Davis) Martain is the daughter of the late Reverend John Lee Davis and Sister Molly Hazel (McTeer) Davis. Reverend Martain is a 1975 graduate of Swansea High School, a 1979 graduate of the University of South Carolina where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Education; furthermore, Reverend Martain earned a Master of Education degree in Secondary Counselor Education from the University of South Carolina in 1988. She is currently retired but continues to maintain her State Department of Education certification as a school counselor. Reverend Martain is a former employee of Richland County School District One in Columbia, S. C. where she served at various schools for 28 years. In order to properly prepare for the next season of service, Reverend Martain is pursuing a Master of Divinity from Dickerson-Green Theological Seminary in Columbia, S. C. Reverend Martain is widowed and the mother of two adult daughters, Victoria Lee Martain and Jessica Rosalee Martain.
Reverend Martain accepted God’s call to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ in 2005. She was licensed to preach on August 13, 2006 under the administration of Presiding Elder Robert Cooper, Sr. She was ordained as an Itinerant Deacon on October 10, 2008 by Bishop Preston Warren Williams, II. In 2015, Reverend Martain returned to serve at her home church, Mount Olive A. M. E. Church in Swansea, S. C., as Associate pastor and Minister of Music. At the 2018 Fall Convocation/Post-Conference, Reverend Martain was appointed to serve as the pastor of Mount Olive for the 2018-2019 conference year. Since that conference year, she has continued to serve as pastor of Mount Olive. Prior to returning to serve at her home church, Reverend Martain served as pastor of Saint Luke A. M. E. Church in Lone Star, S. C. for a total of four blessed and spiritually rewarding years.
Most importantly, Reverend Martain is a born again Christian; saved and filled with the Holy Spirit. She has completely surrendered her life to Christ Jesus and is determined to do God’s will and follow His plan for her life without compromising or deviating from the path God has commanded her to travel. Reverend Martain lives by the Word of God and adopts as her motto for life Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me.”
