​​   The Reverend Dr. Herbert L. Temoney is a native of Mayesville, South Carolina. He is the youngest of thirteen children born to the late Mr. Robert Temoney, Sr. and Mrs. Vermell McCauley Temoney.


     Dr. Temoney obtained his formal education in the Sumter County District 2 School System. After successfully completing high school he attended and graduated from Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina with a B.S. in Sociology and Social Work.

     

     He furthered his educational pursuits by receiving the Master of Divinity Degree from Payne Theological Seminary in Wilberforce, Ohio. Later he earned a Doctor of Ministry Degree from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio on May 20, 2016. Along with his earned degrees, Dr. Temoney was awarded the Doctor of Humane Letters for his Distinguished Community Service from the Canaan Bible College of North Charleston, South Carolina.


     Dr. Temoney’s professional background has allowed him to work with the Marion-Dillon County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs as a Service Coordinator from 1988 – 2006. His organizational skills coupled with his love for the people of God has allowed Dr. Temoney to work as a volunteer Chaplain with the Coastal Crisis Chaplaincy Organization in Charleston, South Carolina, a Notary Public, a member of the Illumination Project, and to serve on the Mayor of Charleston Clergy Advisory Council for many years. 

         Dr. Temoney began his Christian ministry in 1980, serving various churches throughout the  Seventh Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. His last pastoral appointment was to the Greater St. Luke African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina where Dr. Temoney served faithfully to the glory of God.


      After serving faithfully to his call and ministry, Bishop Samuel L. Green, Sr., the Presiding Prelate of the Seventh Episcopal District, appointed Dr. Temoney to the office of Presiding Elder and stationed him to supervise the work of ministry in the Wateree District of the Central Annual Conference during the Annual Founder’s Day Convocation on February 16, 2018 at Allen University.


     Dr. Temoney holds membership in Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and he is a Prince Hall Free and Accepted Mason of the Do – Right Lodge #377.


     He is married to the former Kimberly Z. Jefferson. Together, they are the proud parents of four children: Herbert Clayton, Justin Akeim, Shawndolyn Alexis and Jovonte’ Sentel and one grandson Deandre’. Dr. Temoney believes in the word of God and he stands on Deuteronomy 28 to serve as a constant compass and to keep him grounded.
