African Methodist Episcopal Church

The Wateree District

AME 7

I was born December 16, 1963, to Rosa Jackson Hurell and the late Daniel Hurell.   I am the fourth oldest child of seven children.  My family and I  lived in Rochester, New York until 1975. We relocated to Georgetown, South Carolina, the birthplace of my parents.

Upon graduation from Choppee High School, I furthered my education at Horry Technical College in Georgetown to pursue a career in Business.  My studies also include Phoenix University, AIU University, and the Bible College. I am now enrolled in Dickerson-Green Seminary to obtain my Master of Divinity Degree.

My employment background includes Supervisor of Environmental Services at Kings Daughter Hospital, Norfolk, Virginia; Floor Care Manager at Portsmouth General Hospital, Portsmouth, Virginia; and Director of Operations at AMI Kids, Georgetown, South Carolina.

My spiritual journey began at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church where my family and I served in 2000. I joined Greater Mt. Zion AME Church, McClellanville, South Carolina in 2002.  I answered the Master's call to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ in 2003 and was admitted to the Palmetto Annual Conference.

While attending Greater Mt. Zion AME Church, I served as the President of the Sons of Allen and Church School Teacher. I also assisted with the Youth Department and traveled with the pastor assisting where needed.

My wife,  Elizabeth Vanessa Hurell, and I have been married for 18 years.  We have been blessed with five children and five grandchildren.

I am  currently pastoring at Mt. Pisgah AME Church (Ft. Motte), St. Matthews, South Carolina.

My philosophy is to love one another as I love myself. I believe that if we love more, the world would be a much better place.
