Sister Delphine Scott, currently a resident of Columbia, SC, was born in North, SC and educated in the Calhoun County Public Schools. Delphine has one older sister (Janice) and one younger brother (Carl).  Delphine is the mother of twin sons, Stephon (Carrisa) Scott and Gerod (Mildred) Scott. She is the proud grandmother of four grandchildren: Dominique, DaShon, Destinee, and Stephon II.  She is also the new great grandmother of Phoenyx!

Delphine received her Bachelor’s Degree and her Master’s Degree in English Education from South Carolina State University.  She began her teaching career as an English teacher at Barr Street Junior High School, Lancaster, SC. Delphine continued as a Gifted and Talented Teacher/Coordinator and Adult Education Teacher at Elloree Elementary/High Schools, Elloree, SC.  She also held the position of Adjunct English Professor at South Carolina State University and, while doing so, worked on her Elementary Principal Certification coursework. Upon completion, Delphine began her career in educational administration in Richland One as an Assistant Principal at Webber School, Eastover, SC.  She moved on in Richland One to the role of Elementary Principal at John P. Thomas Elementary School, Columbia, SC, then Human Resources Coordinator, and later, “Retirement” in 2007, after 28 years of service.

After retirement, Delphine launched and managed for five years an online teacher certification consultant business and an online retail business selling teacher recognition gifts, school bus collectibles, and assorted gifts for various professionals. Even though she was serving education professionals, Delphine missed the educational setting and returned to work as a substitute teacher in Richland Two.  She advanced to the position of Human Resources Specialist and worked for nine and a half years. She spent her last six months of working as an Interim Principal at Lonnie B. Nelson Elementary School, Columbia, SC. Delphine officially retired June 30, 2020.

Delphine is a member of St. Peter AME Church, North, SC, where she is currently serving as the social media manager, videographer, photographer, and website administrator. Rev. Anthony Washington is her pastor.  As a youth, she was an active member of the YPD and later served as the local YPD president.  Delphine continued her service at the district level. She was appointed the Wateree District YPD Director by Elder B. P. Boston. She later served as the Wateree District Debutante-Master Chairperson.  Delphine is currently serving as the Wateree District Website Administrator.

Delphine enjoys listening to music, genealogy, photography, word games, lighthouses, proofreading and editing, shopping, and spending time with family.

Delphine’s favorite quote is based on the Bible verse, Matthew 7: 12: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
